Top 5 Photo Tips For A Stellar Listing

Photos are the first things prospective guests look at when considering a property, and as listings with great photos receive more bookings, we’ve got to make sure that your place shines! A virtual tour gives a taste what it’s like to stay at your place and helps set expectations for guests so they can book with confidence. Not a host yet? List your space here!

Here are a few photo tips that will help spiffy up your listing:

Light it up: brightness lends depth and color variance to the scene. Sunlight is best, but if it’s a dim day, just flick on an overhead light and lamp.

Shoot into a corner: shows the range of space and adds dimensionality, also gives the appearance of being larger.

Take exterior photos: help people imagine what coming home would look and feel like. Photograph the entire structure and surrounding area.

Clean the scene: de-cluttering is key as it will make your place feel more livable and extra things won’t distract in the photo. Just be sure this is a true reflection of how guests will find the space.

Declutter

Highlight the amenities: document the offerings that make your space unique and comfortable (e.g. patio and BBQ grill, Tempurpedic bed, etc.)

  6. is there a way to rotate my photos?

  7. Aaron, you need to do that on your computer. Most photo viewers will rotate it for you, or right-click on the photo in its folder on your computer and select Rotate (this is for Windows; use a search engine for how to do it on a Mac).

  8. Cozy Room/Sunny Serenity, Philadephia,PA says:

Someone messed with my site photos and blew them up too big so half of the pictures are missing. Please put them back to normal size!

  9. Cozy Room/Sunny Serenity, Philadephia,PA says:

Correction: not half of the pictures missing; half of all of the individual picture space is missing, so you can’t even get an idea of at what you are looking.

  20. Your sorting is weird. If I sort by recomended, hosts with less reviews are showing up before hosts that recieved more and stellar reviews. Also does sorting by distance do? Since the San Francisco Bay Area consists of many cities, when one enters to find a place in San Francisco why don’t you have the sort work such that all the SAN FRANCISCO listed are grouped and sorted together? Instead the first listing one sees is a city that is *not* San Francisco. Maybe add a link for a airbnb renter to select by the different cities within the Bay area?

  26. Cozy Room/Sunny Serenity, Philadephia,PA says:

  48. Is it possible to upload videos?

  49. Vivek Wagle says:

Hi anida – we are experimenting with video uploads. We may expand video profiles in the future.

  50. @ Michele K CazalasTypes of guests and duration of stay vary. Probably the biggest factor is – where are you? Are you in a city that people come and stay for work? or just want see one or two tourist sites? And who are you and how did you write your ad?I’ve had people book anywhere between 1 night and 2 months. I’ve had single business travelers, couples on vacation, parents visiting adult children, people here for work, and recently a slew of people looking for a short term solution while they are going through a break up. Age ranges from early 20′s to mid 60′s. I don’t get many people looking to party, but my listing talks about calm and quiet and an escape from the hubub.

How do get captions on photos once they have been uploaded to Airbnb? I note that several people have done it but I can’t see an option.

  54. Vivek Wagle says:

Hi there – to add captions, just go to your Dashboard > Your Listings > Manage Listing > Photos. Then select the Edit tab. You will then see each photo; click on one and at the bottom of the image will be a long white box where you can add a caption. Once you have typed a caption in and pressed Enter/Return, it should automatically save. Please give up to 30 mins for your listing to update on our system. Please also make sure you are using a browser that can cope with high graphic websites, such as Chrome and Firefox.

I cannot get photos to upload. I click on the upload and it says is uploading, have waited one hour, nothing happens. What do you suggest?

  57. Yes I agree about the search engine .. I’m renting my photo studio in Brooklyn. When you search " Photostudio" on Airbnb 100s off listing come before mine.. and not one of them has the word photostudio in the listing. So I have no idea how the search engine works .. but it has nothing to do with whats you’r searching for. – J

I am truly sorry to hear that the scheduling went awry and caused frustration when it was our intention to improve your experience.Tal

  69. I can not upload my photos to become a new host. I know you need at least one. It is just not working for me. I request a free photo shoot, so I guest I will have to wait on that. Any advice in the meanwhile would be appreciated. Thank you

  70. Tiffany, Airbnb is a wonderful organisation, apart from the technical side of its photo policy, which really does not work at all. Hundreds of people have asked to rotate a photo in the past, but so far that has not been possible. I just cannot imagine that it can be difficult to implement, but I am not a programmer.I would take the photo again with a horizontal shape :-(

  71. I had exactly the same problem uploading my photos when I started my listing a short while ago. My browser is Internet Explorer, and it doesn’t seem to work at all when uploading photos to Airbnb. I followed Airbnb’s suggestion to try another browser. I thought Google Chrome was difficult to download, and I gave up in the end. However, I found Mozilla Firefox very easy to download, and this browser sorted out the photo upload issue. I would also add that I’m no expert when it comes to computers, so I guess if I can do it, most others should be able to do it as well. As far as rotating photos is concerned, I had no difficulty. I took the photos on my mobile phone, and downloaded them onto my computer via a USB connection I put the photos into a folder, went through them all, made any required corrections, and closed the folder. I then accessed the folder to upload them – no problems. I hope this helps anyone who is having difficulty, good luck! John.

  73. Had the same image upload problems with IE. Wanted to add/ change some pictures. Tried Mozilla. Didn’t work at first. Closed IE. Reopened Mozilla. Didn’t work again. Then clicked somewhere on the image upload page, then clicked on the upload button and upload dialogue suddenly popped up. Absolutely random. Tried again. Did not work. Tried another time and worked this time. And so forth. The upload time itself was rapid. Explanation? Don’t ask…
