Take a Bow: A Tribute to Airbnb Hosts
"We didn't sign-up on Airbnb to make money... But after quitting our jobs Airbnb became our own stimulus package, a sort of angel investment in our startup."
- Mike Radparver, one half of the Rad Brothers.
At Airbnb we are fortunate enough to speak with many of our hosts and guests on a daily basis and we want to take a moment to say “You Guys Rock!” Now it’s time for us to spread our excitement by sharing your inspiring stories of ingenuity and genuine hospitality.
In the first installment of "Take a Bow", Airbnb is spotlighting a couple of truly amazing hosts who have actively searched for a way to solve life’s obstacles and fulfill their dreams.
Enter the “Rad Brothers”, a.k.a. Mike and Dave Radparver, two crazy guys who did the unthinkable during the worst economy our generation has seen: they quit their jobs. While most were taken aback by this move, these brothers from NYC were driven by an entrepreneurial passion to start a company inspired by sustainable living. They created a video to capture the morning they set out to quit their jobs and begin the first day of the rest of their lives.
Hosting on Airbnb inadvertently provided the extra income to fund their dreams. "We didn't sign-up on Airbnb to make money, we did it to meet travelers, exchange stories, and share our home. But after quitting our jobs Airbnb became our own stimulus package, a sort of angel investment in our startup. It's fair to say that without Airbnb we wouldn't have been able to drive Holstee to where it is today."Their hospitality has not gone unnoticed either! A young traveler from Australia, Lucy, created a video about staying at Rad’s House. In Lucy’s words, “what more could a girl want?”
Over the next few months you will meet inspirational hosts just like you, from starving artists to empty nesters. All are helping pioneer a movement towards providing the opportunity to Travel like a human.
