Win one of the grand prizes, that is…

  2. Zoelee

    Congratulations!

  3. Billy

Kind of weak that only heterosexual couples who have already lead full lives (weddings, kids, etc.) won when there were so many other couples with difficulties to overcome: sexuality, mixed-race, distance, money, hardships, etc.

  4. Jess

I personally know one of the winner, and it’s very sad that people can’t just be genuinely happy for others. Her husband and her had a lot of hardships in their relationship. They’re young and have had financial issues, but the worst, being the loss of their baby boy. Maybe they didn’t feel the need to put that up, because they didn’t want votes for the simple fact that people "felt sorry" for them. They wanted them because they wanted people to feel as if they truly deserved this trip! So, please, before you go off on a rant, keep in mind that just because others don’t put their hardships out for the world to see, doesn’t mean they don’t have any.Congrats to all of the winners!!!

It makes me happy to see the good news from this contest posted on the blog, but at the same time unsettling to see only happy, positive blog posts without any mention of EJ’s "ransacked home" situation. Most likely, the media storm just arrived today, so I will not pass judgment now, but I would really like to know more about how AirBnB is going to handle EJ’s and future cases.

I second Jess’s comment and have a few of my own. It is too bad people can’t just be happy for someone who entered an contest and won it fair and square. How do you feel about someone winning the lottery — do you think that is "not fair" because you didn’t win? I think you sound like a pathetic whiner — get over it!!

A hearty congratulations to the winners! I’m sure any of the finalists deserved such an incredible trip… I know we’d all love to win something like that! However, I’m a little confused because one of the winners didn’t follow the rules of the submission – the story was over 150 words and there were not "three unique things" listed about their home. If others followed the rules and potentially left crucial info out of the story to stay under 150, well, that would be a clear disadvantage. In the end the whole thing seemed pretty arbitrary anyway. I bet it would be interesting to see the judge’s scoring sheet… Have fun winners!

Congratulations to the winners. Since Marvin and I were also entrants we watched it closely and all along we thought those three were very deserving. We had so much fun getting our friends to vote for us and want to thank Airbnb. We will be married at sunset overlooking the ocean on August 27th and feel like we are winners too. God bless you all.

  12. Hollie

Jeanette, congrats on your upcoming wedding! I’m sure it will be absolutely beautiful! <3Congrats to the other two winners! And yes, I am insanely ecstatic that we won – I have every right to be :) This is truly an amazing opportunity and we can’t thank Airbnb, and those who voted, enough!!

  13. Emma Franco

Congrats you guys!! Enjoy your honeymoon!! <3

    http://destinationhoneymoon.airbnb.com/entry/178236 …..they lost???? I CANT BELIVE. WHY???

  16. Rob

I was one of the finalists…. didn’t win but it was fun "hoping" for 2 weeks haha. I’ve already used AirBnb and plan on doing so in the future. Have fun winners!

  17. Amanda

My parents are 2 of the lucky winners (Chip and Val) and it was the greatest news hearing they had won. If you read the comments left by friends, family and neighbours, you might see why the judges had compassion. No they arent young newlyweds… they are two adults in their 2nd marriages (18 years strong) who never in their lives had the financal ability to take a trip… Please don’t write comments that are disrespectful, If you met them you would soon find out that they would give the shirt off their back or open their home to anyone in need. I love my parents and could think of anyone that deserves a break more… and congratulations to the other winners:)

@Duane Johnson – Yes, I too am very interested to see how airbnb has been following up with "EJ". It makes me concerned to even try airbnb without concrete evidence that "EJ" has been made whole by airbnb and evidence as to how it has modified its systems in order to protect future users by identity/background authentication.Looks like techcrunch is even picking it up: http://techcrunch.com/2011/07/29/airbnb-victim-speaks-again-homeless-scared-and-angry/Airbnb, what have you to say on this developing issue?

  19. Peter

I’m confused – there has been quite a lot in the press about an AirBnB and an "EJ" where it appears that AirBnB disputes her assertions about how she was treated after her apt was trashed. Why don’t we see anything about that in the blog – or is it just more faceless fake-human marketing stuff? It’s hard to take you guys seriously as "gamechangers" who deserve my business when you’re so poor at communicating with a disgruntled customer/partner, it appears that you’re deliberately attempting to mislead the public, and of course the radio silence here (which reminds me of the silence on Fox News about the recent difficulties of one Rupert Murdoch in the UK).Come on guys, communicate honestly!

This is why I would never use this service.http://techcrunch.com/2011/07/30/how-the-hell-is-this-my-fault/

  22. Lame

What really sucks is it was hard work to get all the votes and airbnb never emailed to say the winners were announced. We had to google it. Thanks for nada. Congrats to the winners, though both of their stories sucked and were written poorly. If I’d known that the judging was going to be based off a pity party we would have written differently.

  23. Jealous much?

Oh I just love all of the neg comments! Boo-friggin-hoo! Get over it. With your piss-poor attitudes, it’s more than clear why you didn’t win. Congrats to the winners. You guys clearly deserved to win! Hope you all have an amazing time!

  25. Paul

"Lame" – Did you even make it into the top 50??? lol…just wondering. It would have been a very sad day, had someone like you won, instead of the very deserving couples above. Instead of whining, why can’t you (and others) just be happy for those that won?

Aw you guys, come on!! This is so sad to read these comments…. I’m sure we were all a little disappointed we didn’t win the honey moon but it was a free contest!! You weren’t guaranteed anything! Just be positive and good things will come your way! You don’t know what’s going on in the winners lives…they probably totally deserve it! <3

Dear Airbnb Team,I am Founder of CultStory Inc., mobile application development company in Korea. We are so interesting about Travel section, and published Travel app for iPhone in this year. ^^Today, I found your service ‘airbnb’. It’s very impressive~!!And even translated by Korean. (So glad about that!)But the translation not so natural in Korean… So, if possible I hope to help the translation more natural in Korean.Thank you:D

  29. cody

pretty weak indeed billy…get your head out of your ass really deserving people won and no one cares if you’re black, white or gay!

  30. Jace

With your self-stoked EJ fire burning your valuation down to zero, why is there no discussion on your blog of what you’re doing to solve her problem and the systemic problems in your business model? Lawyers got your collective tongues? Don’t you have a PR professional on staff, or at least on your speed dial?

  31. Heather

Val and Chip are so deserving and I amongst all their friends will attest to their unending generosity in the face of their own hardships. I wish people would just wish them and the other winners well. Bitterness is so ugly and will eventually etch its way onto your face in unflattering lines. Good will and smile lines tell the world a different story.

I was a participant in this content, and one of the finalists. Congratulations to the winners. They are all very deserving of their prizes and recognition, and I hope they have wonderful (second) honeymoons! However, airbnb needs to get a LOT more professional in how it handles its future contests and communication. From the start this contest was loosely worded and enforced. Among some of things that were maddening for contestants include:–No criteria whatsoever for how the contest/winners would be judged–Loose enforcement of participation (e.g. some couples wrote way over the word limit)–No adherence to the contest timeline published prominently on the website–A formal announcement of the winners a full week after the contest was doneIn the big picture I know that these are minor concerns. However, when couples put their trust and hope in a company and its processes, that company has an obligation to be clear, consistent, and professional in how it deals with contestants and/or professional customers. After this experience, I am far less likely to do business with airbnb. If they can’t run a simple contest well, then why should I have any faith that they’ll run their business transactions well either?

  33. Nafisa

Congratulations! To BOTH couples!! I am very happy for you all. And wish you a wonderful trip!!!

  34. SF

WOW… "No GOOD DEED goes unpunished"… I think the contest was awsome!!! We were in the top 50… I think it was a fun exercise and was happy to participate… They call it a contest for a reason!!! Not everyone can win and I think the winners were deserving… I’m really sickened and saddened to see ALL the AirBnB bashers… AirBnB is a great company and as an AirBnB host it has changed our life for the better!!! GREAT JOB AirBnB!!! I love you and refer AirBnB daily to everyone I meet…

  35. Jeanette

For some reason Marvin and I moved from 17th to 16th. Was there an elimination or something?Got the email today and it looks all of the finalists will get a travel voucher. :)
