Three years ago, our co-founders donned cameras around their necks, going from host to host to photograph spaces in New York. This began the foundation to what is now an international photography operation that is growing at breakneck speed. In the past year, we have built a fleet of over 1,000 Airbnb professional photographers that have visited over 13,000 properties in 383 cities across six continents. Taking crisp, well-lit and composed photographs that accurately convey the look and feel of the spaceis the most difficult part of creating a listing, so we make it easy. Airbnb’s photography program is completely free to our community, making it an invaluable asset for hosts around the world.
Properties with professional, verified photos are booked 2.5 times more than those without, and bring in our hosts an average of $1,025 per month. Aside from shooting high resolution photos for a listing, our *professional photographers verify the property and gives guests the added assurance that they can feel safe booking sight unseen. We learned early on that being able to offer photos and making a personal connection with the hosts was transformational for Airbnb.
Since the program has shown overwhelming success, we’ve decided to open it up to even more cities. Hosts who want to request a photographer to come and photograph their space, courtesy of Airbnb, can submit through their listing page or our photography page. While we don’t have photographers everywhere just yet, we’ll soon have someone in every city, country and continent where you can book an Airbnb. Next stop: Antarctica.
