Airbnb is better than the Olympics.

This post brought to you by the Airbnb Coalition to Hire Cool People Who Can Do Cool Things Well (ACTHCPWCDCTW)

Have you ever had the talent and drive to potentially compete at the Olympics? I did. So why, before my prime, did I retire last summer to join Airbnb? Frankly put, I think Airbnb is better than the Olympics. Its the most amazing thing, experience, movement, idea, and team I've ever been a part of.

You must think I'm crazy. Most people did. Most people haven't experienced Airbnb like I have.

My name is Christopher Lukezic and I'm part of the Airbnb Team.

My previous life (2006 US Indoor Championships. I won.)

If you've ever stepped foot in our SF office/apartment* you'd immediately experience a sliver of the energy that drove to me to do what I did. More akin to a club house than an office, it's a place where a flash mob dance party with co-workers at 2PM is considered commonplace. It's a place I miss when I'm away for too long. More importantly it is the place where a group of people, who over the past 8 months have become like family, meet daily to build a company they believe in.

At Airbnb, we don't get down, we get up. Catch some Air!

When was the last time you were in awe of those you work with? I am daily. The diversity of talent within the walls of this place boggles my mind. Now that I'm here, I realize that we could probably be doing anything, in so much as we were doing it together. Whatever we were doing, we would not only succeed, but likely revolutionize an industry. A bold statement for sure, but one that pretty much sums up the depth of belief I have invested in those around me. Building something with a inspiring team has been infinitely more rewarding than the solitary pursuit for a gold medal.

The Airbnb Team

My motivation to join Airbnb was driven by the desire to push the boundaries of my intellectual and creative abilities by pursuing a challenge where the confluence of ideas meets the reality of the market. Right now, Airbnb is at that intersection and tipping point, where the mass market starts to adopt your ideas. We are propagating the future of travel and pushing an industry to re-imagine itself. Audacious goals to say the least, but we didn't set out to do anything less than start a travel revolution.

Innovate and revolutionize

Its not about efficiency, its about fun. Working hard is easy. Being inspired by those around you and having the time of your life while producing more than you ever have is unique. We aren't your typical start-up.

Here are some companies we admire, Zappo's, Apple, Weiden + Kennedy, and 37 Signals. We want to be like them, but better.

If you ever stop by our digs, you'll usually find me sitting in one of these, working on one of these, and sipping this. If I'm not, I'm probably in the corner napping on this.

We are currently hiring for 20 positions. If you are a cool person, doing cool things well, we want you!

Check back soon as we'll be highlighting the other 30 employees who make Airbnb so special.

*We've outgrown the apartment, but don't worry, we've commissioned renowned architecture firm O+A to build us the perfect home! Coming soon...

At first I was very disappointed that you quit running (still am actually) as I wanted to see you dominate in 2012. I am glad though that you found something you love.

I thought I had the best two jobs in the world. That is, being an artist who also works for an amazing not-for-profit that supports artists who have an intellectual disability to exhibit internationally. Clearly it gets better. My most admired co-worker is a jeweller who just completed her Masters in the U.S. by making a piece a day, has a full-time job as a Gallery Manager (and works unpaid overtime because she loves it) and wants to do her PhD...
I am visiting NYC in late June, and would love to swing by to drop a Paul Hogan/Crocodile Hunter impersonation on your ears.

I live in Arlington, Tx in the middle of the DFW's vibrant metropolis. Arlington is the new home of America's Team and 2011 Super Bowl.

I met my partner online and moved to Vancouver to be with him. This year I curated the first art+social media exhibition anywhere at the gallery where I work. Connecting people is my thing. I will send my resume' pretty soon. I joined AirBnB as an apartment owner but it feels I should be also on the other side of the fence.

Thanks for sharing your story, Chris. Joining the AirBnB Team is my "dream job."
While hosting travelers in my home, I had pretty much come to the conclusion that I will be moving back to the West Coast at some point in the near future. Then I found the job posting listing my skill set, and it just seems so serendipitous!
Its like when a friend and I were lost in Rome at 3am singing and dancing to the Circus Song in the street, and, I kid you not, a group of fully dressed clowns danced with us then went along their way down the street. We looked up and were at our hotel! SO incredible and yes, it really did happen. So, I believe that sometimes things just line up the way they meant to be.
Hope to meet you all soon!

Wow, I love your story Chris. There is nothing better than working at a place that truly inspires you and your colleagues become like family. Learning from each other and pushing the envelope on creativity and changing an industry is when magic happens. I am currently applying to Airbnb and I would be blessed to work at such a place and contribute value to the dynamic team! Cheers, hope to see you soon!

Good luck to AIRBNB...

By the way, Im going on a trip to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia next year... this site will definitely help me find an inexpensive accommodation in those countries.

Helloo Air BNB...I am excited about all you guys do!! That's is my kind of people. Love to show other people how to make the best out of life! I just love it! I am a relaxed but also very excited person. And the idea of getting to know people and learning about people and places from experience is just a thrill for me. I am also easy-going, hard working and goal oriented person. I enjoy sports, traveling and I am always trying to learn new things. I would have to say I’m interested in just about everything. Let's say I can be open minded and I still have my own opinion at the same time. I love to be a problem solver and being assertive is always my goal in tough situation. I enjoy supporting good ideas. And I have come to the realization that all the challenging situations we come across in life is a test meant to bring the best out of us. Love to be fearless about life.
I always have a stack of books to read--some books I finish in a couple days, some take months. I read the Economist religiously. And now the New York Times. I have a good sense of humor, and I somehow seem to make almost every situation funny. I am an active person and I like being outdoors, taking day or weekend trips, biking, playing tennis, playing volleyball, playing with the kids in my family is just a blast! And doing just about anything around town, day or night. Sunday, weather permitting, is always a beach day! The most recent addition to my schedule is Girl's Night out on Tuesday's Night in Boston. We have all the nice and trendy places for ourselves ;-D! Boston South End is an amazing area and I just in love with the people and places here. You have to experience.
Best regards,
Lilian Logatti.

I am part of a new peer group program, at a mental health and rehabilitation program, who's mission is to assist a dynamic and talented group of people back into the workplace. Airbnb is just the kind of vision that I am looking for, and am excited to find. There are two wonderful possibilities presenting themselves. The first is matching your current needs with our clients in an innovative environment that invites spirit of self blossoming into company growth. Plus I see the opportunity for providing legitimate work from-home positions that are currently severely lacking. If any of the the positions you a looking to fill are such a work from home opportunity would you please let me know so I can pass them onto our director.

Thank You So Much,
Anne Griffitih

I am looking to rent a room, and I think your idea of renting for South by Southwest is a wonderful idea and has presented it's self at the perfect time.
